Red dot award winning Cosm chair adjusts to everybody’s body.
Like the automatic transmission in your car, the Cosm chair from Herman Miller magically self-adjusts to the person sitting in it. Unlike manual office chairs, the Cosm’s Auto-Harmonic Tilt is a self-adjusting mechanism that responds to the sitter’s position, regardless of how much or how often you shift.
Cosm recently received the prestigious Red Dot Best of the Best Product Design Award, the competitions top distinction in the Office Chairs category, for its innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content, product periphery, self-explanatory quality and ecological compatibility.
To experience the Cosm is to forget gravity, according to Carola Zwick, Co-Founder of the Berlin-based Studio 7.5 that designed the chair. “We wanted to create a feeling of weightlessness- not an easy task because of very complex mechanics.”
The ergonomic design was created by a meticulous process of prototyping hundreds of hand-sculpted and 3-D printed parts. The continuous suspension and sculptural form and the monochrome colouring give the appearance of a single unified object, the Cosm is in actuality a collection of multiple parts and pieces.
Since hitting the market less than a year ago, the Cosm is now used by more than 1,700 companies in 90 countries around the world.
The revolutionary design of the Cosm has also received numerous other awards including:
