Tashkeel unveils new Tanween additions at Downtown Design

Three contemporary products by three emerging UAE-based designers make their debut.

Tashkeel, the Dubai-based contemporary art and design studio, unveiled the latest additions to its Tanween Collection of products at Downtown Design this week.

The three newly announced products have been developed and created during the last 12 months by three innovative, emerging designers who have been nurtured, stimulated and creatively nourished through the intensive twelve-month Tanween development programme – which is open to emerging designers, makers and artisans living and working in the UAE.

Designed, inspired by and manufactured in the UAE, the limited-edition pieces are all innovative, relevant, desirable and functional.

The designers of 2019 are:

  • Abdalla Almulla, Emirati architect and founder of MULA design studio – designer of the Traces of Time timepiece
  • Lana El Samman, Lebanese-Canadian interior designer – designer of the Mokaعab modular table or shelf
  • Yara Habib, Lebanese-Canadian graphic designer – designer of the Katta room divider.

Tanween is Tashkeel’s professional development programme, which is open to emerging designers, makers and artisans living and working in the UAE. Each year, three to four practitioners are selected to embark on a journey of experimentation and learning that includes the development of products, from concept to completion, that contribute towards defining a UAE design aesthetic. The final products become part of the Tanween Collection and are revealed to the world at Dubai Design Week. Tashkeel then continues its support by providing funding, marketing and sales resources for a limited-edition product line, enabling each designer to gain entry into the market.

Tanween’s three artists and products of 2019 edition will be at Downtown Design 2019, d3 Waterfront, Stand E31 until the show closes at 9pm today.
