Loewe’s seasonal collection takes inspiration from William De Morgan

De Morgan collection celebrates British ceramist’s imagination-driven work.

The fantastic creatures and floral arabesques that feature on the tile designs of British ceramicist William De Morgan are celebrated in Loewe’s seasonal collection of ready-to-wear, accessories and charms for men and women. Certain details are enlarged on coats and bags, while others are hand-stitched onto oversized scarves and knitwear. Some garments, such as a woollen dragon’s tail, or a horned knitted beanie, remake the wearer as a monster themselves.

Notable pieces include a black leather jacket with a crimson dodo painted on the back and a peacock-print trenchcoat in indigo, cerulean and green. De Morgan’s drawings of peacock feathers and yellow flowers also feature on soft calfskin Puzzle, Hammock and Gate bags, now available in miniature sizes. Blue and white dodos and hoopoe birds decorate trousers, skirts and wool- and-calfskin men’s and women’s bags. Rabbits and partridges collaged over foliage adorn linen-and-calfskin Lazo Shopper and Bucket bags, as well as small wallets and cardholders.

“Each year we have tackled different arts and crafts heroes of mine,” says Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Loewe. “For me it was a very natural process to do William De Morgan; he was a big collaborator in the arts and crafts movement and a true fantasist in that moment.”
