The inaugural We Design Beirut event will illuminate the city with a vibrant celebration of Arab and regional design between 23 -26 May 2024. This four-day event promises to showcase the pinnacle of design creativity, fostering a global dialogue on design and sustainability.

We Design Beirut aims to not only highlight the most innovative and talented designers but also to cultivate a network that evolves into an ecosystem benefiting all participants. This multidisciplinary program promises rich and impactful experiences, with several exciting additions to the lineup.

What to look out for at We Design Beirut

 

Villa Audi

One of the event’s highlights will be the historic Villa Audi, serving as the Hub of Preservation. It will house the exhibition “Past Echoes: A Journey through Middle Eastern Product Design,” curated by Babylon–The Agency, founded by Joy Mardini and William Wehbe. The villa will also feature various installations and pop-ups, making it a central piece of the event. Joining the program is furniture and product designer Collective Y by Rhea Younes, bringing her unique vision to the event.

SWIRLMANIA

We Design Beirut x Nada Debs | identity

Renowned product designer Studio Nada Debs, will present SWIRLMANIA at her studio in Gemmayze, Beirut. This series of over 20 handcrafted occasional tables, aptly named Swirl, showcases meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design techniques.

All Things Must(n’t) Pass

The second City Exhibition, “All Things Must(n’t) Pass,” is a subjective recount of Khalil Khouri’s life and career, curated by acclaimed architect Bernard Khoury and his son Teymour Khoury. This exhibition will take place at the iconic Interdesign building, one of Khouri’s most respected works, offering an intimate look at his influential career.

Hub of Empowerment by PSLab

At the Hub of Empowerment, PSLab will host “Vision from Beirut,” an exhibition by esteemed architect Karim Nader and Belgian photographer Julien Lanoo. This project pays homage to Beirut’s past while envisioning a hopeful future, blending the city’s rich history with forward-thinking design. PSLab, originally home to one of Lebanon’s internationally acclaimed lighting firms before the August 2020 explosions, will serve as the hub of empowerment and craft. It will showcase the Métiers d’Art exhibition, highlighting Lebanon’s centuries-old artisanal splendors and craftsmen. Collaborative projects like We Mediterranean will also feature, along with pop-ups from established design stores such as PIK’D Gallery and The Silly Spoon. Esteemed designers, including Rania Malli with her exclusive Stones collection, will present installations.

Hub of Sustainability by Abroyan Factory

We Design Beirut x Abroyan Factory | identity

The historic Abroyan Factory will be the hub of sustainability, exploring the future of global design in collaboration with Lebanese universities and experienced professionals. This venue aims to provide a platform for young Lebanese designers to showcase their work and envision a sustainable future.
