Sustainable development for future generations guides the pavilion’s design.
Azerbaijan revealed the design of its nature-inspired pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai after a ground-breaking ceremony on March 20, 2019. Two Azerbaijani children attended to highlight the vital role that future generations will play in sustainable development.
A team lead by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Center developed the theme of Seeds for the Future to convey the message that it is by investing today in the future that people can achieve sustainable development and improve the environment. Inspired by the tree and leaf, the leaf-shaped roof and solar radiation absorbing windows will ensure inside comfort. Pomegranate trees which symbolize prosperity and olive trees, symbols of peace, justice and wisdom, will be planted to enhance reflection on issues related to sustainable development.
“Visitors to our pavilion will be made aware of their own power to have an impact on the environment and on social ecosystems. The pavilion will be light-filled, transparent and welcoming, coming to life with events and opportunities to meet – just like our country!” said General Commissioner Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the First-Vice President and Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center and Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau.
