The best of Chinese and international design will be showcased at the sixth annual event.
Design Shanghai, Asia’s largest design event will run from March 6-9, 2019 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre.. The 2019 edition will feature over fifty Chinese designers and brands exhibiting their latest work to showcase their best in furniture, lighting, accessories and new material innovations. In addition, some of the most recognizable international brands will present their best throughout five design halls.
A new addition to this year’s fair, the New Materials and Applications Hall will provide an opportunity for International and Chinese brands to exhibit their latest advancements in materials and surfaces. Talks and workshops will address topics including ecological concerns of the industry, such as waste and repurposing.
This year’s theme for the Design Shanghai Forum in association with Kohler Exquisite, Technology, Craft and Creativity – Friends or Enemies? – examines the relationship between craft and technology. A panel of over thirty icons in the design world will speak to this topic over the four days.
Special features at Design Shanghai will include fifteen large-scale works including Apollo by Timothy Oulton Studio, inspired by the first moon landing, and Zhang Zhoujie’s Manifesto Cabinet, an interactive digital installation that reflects the feelings of its audience,
A satellite to the main fair, the Xintiandi Design Festival will provide a public platform promoting Chinese design by inviting twenty local designers and architects to showcase their installations. Anew initiative, Design Talks and Sharing, will provide an interactive forum for designers and design lovers.
