Milan presents two installations to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the genius’s death.
The 58th edition of Salone del Mobile, Milano will honor the city’s links with its brilliant ‘adopted son’, Leonardo da Vinci, with two massive installations that celebrate his originality, vision and scientific studies while simultaneously reflecting the times in which he lived.
The first, AQUA.Leonardo’s Vision, is located at the Conca dell’Incoronata canal lock, where da Vinci most likely designed and oversaw the building of the lock gates. In the work conceived by Marco Balich, the Conca will be covered with an architectural insert that forms a great expanse of water on the edge of a huge LED screen that will feature the changing landscape of the Milan of the future.
DE-SIGNO, The art of Italian design before and after Leonardo, the second installation, will be in Pavilion 24 at the Salone del Mobile fairgrounds from April 9-14, 2019. Focusing on da Vinci’s legacy in the art of design and craftsmanship, it is an atmospheric narration of da Vinci’s genius and his links to contemporary Italian design. Under the banner of the Italian art and beauty, the installation incorporates film and theatrical scenography. Conceived by Davide Rampello, the 400 m2 space will feature large portals inspired by originals from the master’s era and made entirely by hand in wood by master sculptures and painters. Music and a light show projected on screens will envelop the visitor.
