Tanween offers a platform for creative industries to tackle global issues through the sharing of ideas
Set in the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), the Saudi creative festival Tanween returns this year with its new theme ‘Collaborate to Create’, with the aim of bringing creatives and innovators together to explore how social and cultural exchange can bring forth positive results for world issues.
With the tag line ‘Collaborate to Create’, Tanween’s latest theme recognises the need for a collaboration of cultures to form a stronger society, be it through nature or technology.
The event will be held across three themed weeks (October 27 – November 12, 2022), including the Business of Creativity which will explore new ways of forming creative collaborations such as innovative brand crossovers and looking at solutions for climate damage.
The Graphics & Communications week will take a closer look the correlation between communication and branding to better reach across cultures and audiences, while the Architecture week will explore how working with the environment and cross-cultural and social exchange can contribute to better urban environments.
The event also features various activities, talks and activations, such as the Tanween Hub which will be home to several interactive creative exercises in relation to architecture, fashion, nature and technology. The Weaving Wall will engage audiences in managing textile waste by weaving large-scale looms using recycled fabrics while the Challenges exhibition will showcase the skills of a new generation of designers who have developed practical solutions to world issues.
First launched in 2018, Tanween’s fundamental goal lies in connecting change-making creatives, nurturing creative potential and sharing ideas while also redefining what creativity can mean in a changing world – an ambition that is more important now than ever before.
