Art Jameel requests UAE-based creatives to submit designs for an innovative drinking fountain.

The sabeel, a neighbourhood kiosk or fountain where water is dispensed to travellers, is a symbol of the UAE’s rich heritage of hospitality, tolerance and generosity.  In keeping with the Dubai 2020 subtheme of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, Art Jameel is asking UAE-based creatives to design a new sabeel that will provide visitors to Expo 2020 access to fresh drinking water.

An international jury will select up to three winning designs that will be developed and reproduced across the expo district. The winner(s) will also receive prize money of AED 100,000.

“Water is one of our most precious resources and the traditional sabeel water fountains are key features of the UAE’s public spaces, reflecting the important role that shared water sources play in the prosperity and connection of our communities. The fountains provide a source of comfort for passers-by, especially during hot weather conditions,” stated Marjan Faraidooni, Chief Pavilions and Exhibitions Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai. “Through this initiative, we aim to show our visitors an important part of our culture and heritage, while at the same time honouring our shared humanity.”

The deadline for submissions is September 10, 2019.
